This week’s ride info:

Day: Saturday, December 11th

Time: 9:45 am meeting, 10:00 am departure (As everyone is well aware by now, it’s been cold out lately. Saturday the high is supposed to be 73, and that’s better than its been lately. We should be good on the starting time, but please note that I’ll be checking the weather as we get closer to Saturday and see if there is a need to adjust the starting time forward or back depending on the forecast)

Meeting Place: Parking lot in front of Publix at Steeplechase, on Newberry Road at NW 143rd Street in the Jonesville area. We’ll meet in the southern part of the parking lot just east of SunTrust so we are out of the way of the parking for those shopping.

Route and Mileage: We will do a modified version of the West Newberry Ride and towards the end of the ride we’ll stop at the Rock Trails at 10901 W. Newberry Road to see the cyclocross races that will be going on there, as contained in Chandler Otis’s e-mail notice earlier today. We can watch the races for a while and then ride a short distance back to Jonesville and anyone who needs to leave sooner can easily do so. Distance should be about 40 miles.

Pace: The HighBees ride pace is about 17-18 MPH, sometimes a little faster, except if the wind’s in our faces. This is a friendly, no drop ride; we re-group at all turns when needed.

If you are new to GCC and are looking for a weekly ride with a moderate pace and moderate distance, please feel free to join us.

Membership Requirements: Please note that HighBee rides are open to all GCC members who wish to participate. Those that are non-members may ride with the group as a guest of a sponsoring member once without being required to be a member.

The info on the cyclocross races can be found below:

Registration starts at 9 a.m. at the race site.

All riders (except kids under age 10) will need a USA Cycling license to compete.  A one-day license is available for $10.  The license provides insurance for the race. Entry fees are $10 for Juniors, $15 for Beginners, $25 for all others.   If you compete in more than one race, entry fee for the second race is $5.

The Kids under age 10 race is at 11:30 a.m. and is FREE!
