Fellow members,
Were you planning to ride this evening, whether the Hipp, the
Folkerth night ride, or any other, please consider giving up that
one ride to attend this County Commission meeting.
Think about it. Your scheduled ride for this evening vs. having a
say about the environment in which you will ride for the next 20
years...
Please. Come to the meeting.

Give courage to your friends who do stand up to speak. Just be
there).

Greetings all,
Just to amplify, the Multi Modal Transport Mitigation
(MMTM) plan seeks to combine mixed-use land use
(development) with multi-modal mobility as a means of
managing growth and transport.
The MMTM implies lower fees for developments that
encourage multi-modal transport. This combines the
prospect of bike, ped and bus facilities with lower
costs for land-efficient development as well as reduced
county (and probably city) spending on expanding
roadways for yet more cars. THIS IS A GOOD THING -- a
win-win-win for bikes, managed development, and public
financial management.
I want to note that it seems that most or all of the
county commissioners seem to support the MMTM, but
they're likely going to face yelling from people who
want more car infrastructure. The commissioners
therefore need to hear from supporters.
It seems to me that there are several potential
constituencies of supporters. People yelling about
government fees and spending should support the MMTM
plan. So should people who don't want to choke off
development with car gridlock in Alachua county. And so
should people who want more bike facilities.

I wish to join James Thompson
and Doug and Leslie Folkerth in encouraging everyone
to come out to the meeting tomorrow night. Our
presence as commuters and those who just wish to
have a means to ride from one part of Gainesville to
another, or just want to enjoy being on a bike,
should come. Roger Pierce says we have over 900
members...we need you now! This issue will set the
precedent for future decisions on bicycle access on
roadways around Gainesville and in Alachua county.
Ride leaders please encourage your group to present.
You can't imagine what a difference this will make.
I have been at the meetings and we need help.
Sincerely,
Carol Short
PS. Email me if you don;'t have the particulars. I
will happily forward James's email to you.
