Hello GCC Members,The Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Board (BPAB) is seeking volunteers to participate in the Homecoming Parade, which is this Friday, November 2nd. BPAB members are citizen volunteers who donate many hours of their free time to ensure that the Gainesville Metropolitan Area and Alachua County is a bike- and pedestrian-friendly environment. Now it's time for GCC members to help out BPAB. Why watch the parade, when you have this golden opportunity to become part of it. The BPAB section of the parade will include up to 15 cyclists and up to 25 walkers/joggers. The motto of BPAB is: Run! Bike! Walk!The following volunteers (all ages are welcome) are need:
- Up to 10 additional cyclists; there is a special request for individuals who ride tandems, recumbents or electric bikes. The GCC-sponsored solar-powered trike, "The Photon", will be showcased during the parade. "The Photon" was built by the UF chapter of the American Solar Energy Society.
- Up to 20 additional walkers or joggers.
- 10 to 20 individuals to distribute 200 BPAB water bottles.
Additional Important Information for Prospective Volunteers:
- Time Requirement: 10 AM to 2 PM (please show up between 9AM and 9:30AM). The parade is from 12 PM to 2 PM.
- Distance of Parade Route: 1.5 miles (Gale Lamerand Drive at University Avenue to Main Street and University Avenue.
- Meeting Location: Gale Lamerand Drive between the O'Connel Center and the football stadium.
