About shipping the bike: I also know of some people who took the wheels of their bikes, but the frames into a normal suitcase and then borrowed wheels in Switzerland. If you want to know more about that, I can ask. Also, check out the hillseekers blogspot at http://hillseekers.blogspot.com/. You will find tonnnnnns of road biking pictures and travel tips for bikers. The people blogging are Americans who live in Switzerland and have had biking visitors during the whole summer, new ones each other week or so. They have been through a lot of “what and how to get bikes to Europe”. Definitely worth checking out.
