On Thursday January 1, 2009  , Strays will ride 32 - 34 miles on the Loop Around The Lake route.

This is a scenic  ride with stops to smell the flowers, and includes Newnans Lake, Windsor, Rochelle, and the Gainesville Hawthorne Trail. This is one of the Strays most requested rides.

Arrive at Boulware Springs at 10:15 am to depart at 10:30.

Temps should be above 50 degrees by that time.

We normally park in the dirt lot and gather at the nearby picnic tables for the ride start, but parking is also available at the nearby pump house and the Gainesville Hawthorne Trailhead, if the dirt lot turns out to be full when you get there. (Two GCC ride groups will be departing just before the Strays depart).

Speed 2.5 - 46 mph, depending on terrain. Average speed  has typically been about 12  mph in recent times . This ride is mostly flat except for the hills at the start on Kincaid Road.

There will be a least one convenience store / rest room stop during the ride, possibly two, and also some nature stops.

No pace lines, no racing, no wheel sucking, just a fun social ride.

After the ride the hungry may head to a local restaurant if we can find one that is open on New Years Day.  Don't forget to bring cash as some places don't take credit cards.....

Helmets are REQUIRED on all Strays rides, mirrors recommended, headphones forbidden.

Safety  protocols  are  always  observed on Strays rides
