The Twelve Points Adventure Challenge course involves navigation by map and compass through wilderness and rural areas by bicycle, canoe or kayak and on foot to the four checkpoints in each of the three segments. Travel within a segment must be accomplished by the means stipulated and each segment can be completed in 2 to 2.5 hours (6 to 7.5 hours for the entire course). Specific instructions for each segment will appear similar to a multiple choice test and will consist of a question with several possible answers that can be resolved after locating the prominent landmark, topographical feature or unique object found at each checkpoint.

At check–in, teams will receive a black and white photocopy, 1:24,000–scale topographic, preplotted map that includes specific instructions for the 22 km Bike Segment. After correctly and completely resolving all four Bike Segment questions (in any order) and reaching TA1, teams will receive a black and white photocopy, 1:24,000–scale topographic, preplotted map that includes specific instructions for the 14 km Paddle Segment. After correctly and completely resolving all four Paddle Segment questions (in any order) and reaching TA2, teams will receive a black and white photocopy, 1:24,000–scale topographic, preplotted map that includes specific instructions for the 14 km Trek Segment. Teams can complete the course by correctly and completely resolving all four Trek Segment questions (in any order) and reaching the Finish.

Each segment must be finished correctly and completely before proceeding to the next segment.

There is No Mandatory Gear Or Equipment Requirement. However, teams must provide everything (e.g., map case, writing instrument, food, water, boats, paddles, PFDs, helmets, bicycles, cordage, bike repair kit, whistle, first aid kit, compass, UTM tool, pack, clothing, shoes, gloves, knife, cell phone, watch, GPS receiver, batteries, etc.) necessary to safely negotiate the Twelve Points Adventure Challenge course.

Teams can secure vehicles, tools, gear, equipment, boats, bikes, etc. at the Start/TA1 and return as often as needed. Teams should carry all necessary gear and equipment for the Trek Segment during the Paddle Segment. Teams can secure boats and paddle gear at TA2/Finish after a 200 to 300 meter portage.

Water is available at both the Start/TA1 and TA2/Finish. Transportation between TA2/Finish and the Start/TA1 is available after the event.

Final rankings will be based on Cumulative Time on Course. Each member of a team registered by Sunday, June 21, 2009, that submits a $20.00 donation and a corresponding size request, will receive a t–shirt with the Twelve Points Adventure Challenge logo.

Have fun, good luck and enjoy!
