As we did last year; many of us plan on riding throughout the winter.  Since our jobs tend to get in the way of us riding during the day, we are forced to ride at night.  Well it could be Indiana where not only is it dark, but freezing cold.  Thank goodness for Florida weather.

What we found out the hard way last year is that the normal commuting lights just don’t provide enough light for safe riding at speeds above 18MPH.  It is important to have as much light as you can afford.  Our consensus last year was a minimum of about 1000 lumens. What seemed to work the best was having part of your lights on both the handle bar and on the helmet.

Once again I have contacted Gator Cycle and Arthur has graciously come to the party, to assure club members ride safely this winter.  If you are a club member take your membership card down to Gator and get this really nice deal:

Serfas TSL-500 USB headlight:   MSRP: $150, GCC Price: Only $119.99

Serfas TSL-1000 USB headlight: MSRP: $290, GCC Price: Only $199.99

Lezyne Over Drive 500 HL:   MSRP: $129.99, GCC Price: Only $99.99

CygoLite Turbo 740 HL:    MSRP: $209.99, GCC Price: Only $164.99 (5.5 hrs runtime)

CygoLite Turbo 740 Xtra:  MSRP: $249.99,  GCC Price: Only $194.99 (9.5 hrs runtime)

The Serfas and Lezyne lights are single unit (battery and light) and have a runtime of approx 2 to 3 hrs. The Serfas lights are better quality (USA battery and CNC machined housing).

The CygoLite lights have a separate battery pack; hence the much longer runtimes. These lights will be special ordered but take only 1 to 5 days to arrive.

All of the above lights come with both helmet/handlebar mounts, and should satisfy the clubs needs.

Please say a special THANK YOU to the good folks there.  I appreciate them working with us on this paramount safety issue.

Sincerely, Doug
