So many things to consider...

Talk to your fellow co-workers and discover what they think about cyclists.  Many of them have negative feedback stating, "They take up the road...  I have to wait so long to pass them, it's aggravating..."  These are some of the comments you'll get.  One idiotic group is "Critical Mass" that rides the last Friday of every month and travels the street of Gainesville taking up entire lanes, blocking traffic, yelling at drivers, cutting cars off and causing a whole lot of distention with our fellow 4 wheelers.  They do this in an effort to show drivers to "Share the Road" with bicycles.  They actually think they're doing us fellow cyclists a good thing by making drivers aware that they have to share the road.  All they are really accomplishing is having a good time with their friends while making drivers hate cyclists even more.  They remind me of rioters in Miami that start rioting, looting, and causing property damage to their own neighborhoods, not because their protesting something, it's because they can, and they have fun doing it.  Thank goodness there is some recent press about this group and I hope GPD puts an end to this type of behavior.  Please support GPD and their enforcement of the riders in this Critical Mass group.  I hope, as a GCC member, you do not ride with this group or support them in anyway unless they change their tactics, such as riding WITH traffic and sharing the road, no blocking it and yelling at drivers, just because "they can".

On another note, the Florida Law pertaining to vehicles passing non-motorized vehicles with at least 3-foot clearance can be found in 2006->Ch0316->Section%20083#0316.083">F.S. 316.083.   This was approved by the Governor on 6/22/06 as 2006 House Bill 7079 and takes effect 10/1/2006.  This still states, "A violation of this section is a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a moving violation as provided in chapter 318."  This means the officer has to witness the violation in order to issue a citation.  For some reason the only time I ever see an officer watch someone doing something wrong is when they're watching me.

The best way to change the laws are to speak with your Legislators.  You can find you Legislators here

Just had to put in my two cents...
