Dear Friends: The EZ Riders will join the Hokey Pokies on Saturday 10 December to ride the new part of the Palatka-Lake Butler Trail. There is a great BBQ in Keystone Heights for lunch after, but don't ruin your appetite for the Christmas Party . . . The finished part of this new trail is a good example of how a bike trail should be constructed. It's a pleasure to ride it. Near Grandin there is a stretch where the railroad built an elevated embankment through a wetland, which now provides a great view. Questions? Email me or Chandler, or call me at 333.3184. The Hokey Pokey riding group will explore the Lake Butler
to Palatka Trail on Saturday, Dec. 10. The group
should meet at
Twin Lakes Park (see directions below) at 9:15 a.m. for a 9:30
ride start. This is a paved rail trail, no cars,
just bikes and
hikers.
Currently, about 15-18 miles of this trail have been
paved.
When completed, the trail will be about 55 miles long.
This ride should be a good appetite enhancer for the GCC
Christmas party, which will be that evening at the new Senior
Recreation Center on NW 34th Street.
Everyone is welcome is come on this ride (of course, you
must wear a bike helmet). Don't worry about being slow,
no
one is slower than me and we never leave anyone behind.
The ride will be chaperoned by the ride leader who will
ride at the back of the group to make sure no one gets
lost. The ride leader is also a bicycle mechanic who
can
help fix flat tires and help with any other mechanical
problems.
Directions to ride start: The Twin Lakes Park Trailhead can be found by going East from Gainesville on SR 26 to Melrose, Left at the light in Melrose on SR 21, Right onto SR 100 at the light in Keystone Heights, and then Left on Twin Lakes Road a couple of miles South of Keystone, and finally Right on South Twin Lakes Road for about a mile. Twin Lakes Park is the County soccer field, and is on your Right. Why Hokey Pokey rides?
Cause that's what it's all about! If you have questions, please e-mail me. Chandler Otis chanbike@xxxxxxx
