Trendsetters,
October 25 will mark the first of the 2011 / 2012
Night Time Cross Bike Rides! These rides are A level rides, although
we will be riding a joyful yet mellow tempo for the remainder of October
and into the month of November. That means no intervals and other bollocks.
We will have time to gasp in wonder at the starry nights, and breathe the
crisp air without too much duress.
We meet at the Desoto Park in Hague at 6pm on Tuesday and
Thursday. A few of us mileage junkies ride to the start and pass-by
the Chevron Petrol station. We welcome others to join the parade lap to
Desoto Park.
A few notes about the rides:
1. You will need good forward lights,
of at least 500 lumens. We'll be traversing a lot of dirt roads so more
lumens is better. If you need light advice, please drop me a line, I
can offer a few suggestions. Personally, I'm a fan of D.I.Y.iyG (Do It
Yourself in your Garage). Don't forget about rear blinkie lights.
2. A cyclo cross bike would be handy, but not essential. A hardtail
mountain bike would suffice, preferably with slicker tyres.
3. A fun
attitude! Everyone has fun on these rides, night riding on dirt roads
is an absolute blast.
4. Good winter clothing. As we head towards winter, good clothing can
make all the difference between comfort and freezing your arse
off.
I will likely send another reminder email before the first
official ride posting. This should give everybody plenty of time to get
their act together, charge their lights, bust out the Arseoss Jackets,
etc.
Nighty night,
J. L. O'Mahoney
