We often take riding a bicycle for granted but MS stops people from moving all together. The National MS Society exists to make sure it doesn’t by addressing the challenges of each person affected by MS by funding cutting-edge research, driving change through advocacy, facilitating professional education, collaborating with MS organizations around the world, and providing programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward.
To date, our team, Gainesville Cycling Cub, has raised over $6,575.00 towards our goal of $10,000.00 for Multiple Sclerosis and that money has already been put to good use. Recently, a St. Augustine homebound woman with MS contacted the chapter requesting assistance with a lift chair. MS symptoms have prevented her from being mobile, causing poor circulation and swelling in her legs and feet. With the help of a lift chair, as recommended by her physician, she is able to elevate her feet and prevent swelling. At the client’s request, the vendor also included a massage feature free of charge, as some people with MS find massage therapy beneficial.
There is still time to join the ride and it's an excellent way to use cycling to support a greater cause. If you would like to help in achieving a world free of MS. We invite you to join or sponsor Team Gainesville Cycling Club by going to http://main.nationalmssociety.org/goto/gccfriends or contact Jo Weaver at mrs.joweaver@xxxxxxxxx with any questions you may have about the ride.
