Hey Steven

I am Swiss and have been biking a lot in Switzerland and some in Italy. No companies, though, I did it on my own. I have two places in Italy that I would especially suggest. One for road biking and the other one for mountain biking. Or actually two for mountain biking.

I went for road biking trainings camps each spring in Laigueglia in Italy. Veeeery beautiful place. Check out www.hotelmedit.it. Small hotel owned by a road biker family, the are really nice people and help biker wherever they can. Would suggest you do not go during high season because I imagine this place is packed and there might also be a lot more traffic than what we experienced. Lots of climbing, tons of back roads where we usually did not see more than two cars a day. BEAUTIFUL scenery and tons of delicious food.

There is a mountain bike mekka where lot’s of my friends go each year just a few villages further up, in Finale Ligure. It’s known for rock climbing and mountain biking and people have told me great things about it, however, I have never been there myself and can not suggest hotels or anything.

Then there is Massa Vecchia. The BEST mountain bike place on earth. Also a small hotel that was build out of an old farm. 200km of single tracks. Incredibly good food!!!!! You should book the tours they suggest, just because it is to difficult to find the cool little single tracks in the jungle they have there. I went there in the fall with my friends and they actually were there this past week sending me pictures and making me jealous that I couldn’t go this year. Their web page is http://www.massavecchia.it/. This one is in Tuscany, the other two are in Liguria, which is on the Mediterranean towards the French boarder.

In both places, tell them Martina from Switzerland sais hi. They might or might not remember, but still…

Now if you want any info on biking in Switzerland, please let me know, I can tell you 5 Million places to go for both road or mountain biking. I can also tell you addresses of hotels or friends of mine to ride with. I can show you millions of pictures.

When are you planning on going?

Hope this helps and I would be happy to share some Switzerland info or pictures from both Laigueglia or Massa Vecchia with you!

Martina

If you have first hand experience with cycling overseas, specifically Scotland, Tuscany-Italy and/or other European countries, I would be grateful for recommendations of companies you went through and helpful advice you may have.

Thanks,
