Dear Friends: The staff of Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park tell me that, with the support of the GCC Trailkeepers, they will begin working to repair the erosion damage (washouts) along the Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail, starting tomorrow morning and continuing through next week. This is just a start, and there will be more work scheduled later this year. WARNING: There will be heavy equipment on the Trail, and tomorrow 21 April and Friday 22 April I expect that the Alachua Lake Overlook will be blocked completely. Next week, there will be partial restrictions between Boulware Springs and Witness Tree Junction. Look out for trucks, tractors, and many guys with shovels. Ride carefully, and give way to Trail workers. The same laws about slowing down and giving room to construction workers apply on the Trail as on highways (SLOW DOWN AND GIVE 'EM ROOM!), and the DEP Law Enforcement guys are aware of the work zones. Don't get a ticket for endangering a Trail worker. This is important work to increase Trail safety and maintain the integrity of the Trail pavement. Help us by riding safely. Cheers, GCC Trailkeepers
