Dear Mr. Edwards: I
have recently
been coordinating prescribed burn activities on County land along the
Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail with Paynes Prairie staff. They requested
that I send a notice to you, so that you could help spread the word with
the
local cycling community. The notice is below. Please spread the
word as you see fit, and thanks! Susie
Hetrick In the next two months, as
weather conditions permit, Alachua County will conduct prescribed burns on
lands within Phifer Flatwoods Preserve, next to the Gainesville-Hawthorne
Trail
between mile markers 8 and 10. The prescribed burn operations will
require
vehicles and burn crew on the trail. In addition, smoke on the trail
is
very likely, and may be heavy at times. Affected sections of the
trail
may be closed temporarily. County staff will post signs
on
the trail on the day of the burns to warn trail users of existing
conditions. When possible, signs will be posted on the days before
the
burns are conducted. Please be alert to the signs
and
to trail conditions when you are riding or using the trail. If you have any questions
about
the planned activities, please contact: Susie Hetrick Alachua County Forever Land Conservation Program Alachua County Environmental Protection
