The Kickstand, Gainesville's co-op free bike shop, is having financial trouble, mostly paying rent.

 

For those unfamiliar with The Kickstand, it is a bike shop where you can work on your bike for free, using the tools and workstands.  The staff is entirely volunteer, mostly young University age folks who believe in alternative transportation.     The Kickstand has an earn-a-bike program in which you can build your own bike with frames and parts so young people and homeless people can get basic bikes for transpoetation.

 

If you would like to contribute money or better yet if you know of cheap or free rental space (a warehouse or shop), that would be very helpful.

 

Right now they don't need any used bikes or parts.    When they re-locate, they will start to re-stock used bikes and parts for the earn-a-bike program.
