i just talked to the person who wrote the
article for the paper and she said that
there was no obvious evidence of something
of a "criminal nature" that occured
during the accident, and the gentlemen passed a toxicology text
so that it was not probable that they would pursue a vehicular manslaughter
charge, but the homicide side was still investigating...

we talked a bit, a were both in agreement (she has one other accident stories and brought up numerous examples - including the old fart who ran into our line several weeks ago and showed no remorse at all) that there is a big hole in the law between "failure to drive in a straight line"
and "vehicular manslaughter" and it should be filled with useful legislation
maybe on two levels; even without "criminal intent"- 1 - wreckless endangerment (injury and serious injury) and 2 - manslaughter if there is a fatality
like huan said, a ticket and small fine hardly equal someones life

she was very receptive to our viewpoint and i think would be open to
doing a safety/history/law peice on cycling
her name is Lisa and her number is 374-5092

as for the buzz bys of which i was a victim recently (a waste management truck knocked me off of 98th) i think you should take down the truck number and call the company to report the driver and call the police and file a report there, while not much will be done in the short term
at least they will have these on record and an accumulation of calls might cause some action
and possibly provide good background/evidence if anything of substance might occur
