The Hokey Pokey group will ride the Nature Coast Trail on Saturday,
June 11. Riders should meet at the Trenton trailhead (see directions
below) at 8:15 for an 8:30 ride start.
The Nature Coast Trail is a paved rail-rail (no cars!) and is safe for
riders of all ages and abilities. Because it is a rail-trail, we can
ride as far or as short as we want. The ride leader will accompany
and ride 12-20 miles depending on group wishes.
The Nature Coast Trail is quiet and very safe. It passes by
scenic farms and an impressive prison. The trail crosses the Suwannee
River on the old railroad bridge, which has park benches, so you can stop
and sit and watch the sturgeon jump. If riders are interested,
we can visit an old cemetary that has antebellum graves.
Following the ride, we often gather at one of the local
restaurants.
Everyone is welcome to come on this ride (of course, you must
wear a bike helmet). Don't worry about being slow, no one is slower
than me and we never leave anyone behind.
The ride will be chaperoned by the ride leader who will ride at the
back of the group to make sure no one gets lost. The ride leader is
also a bicycle mechanic who can help fix flat tires and help with any other
mechanical problems.
NOTE TO HOKEY POKEY REGULARS: I had
announced a ride from Rochelle for this Saturday, let's postpone that
ride so we can join George's and Diann's riding groups on the Nature Coast
Trail. Directions to Trenton Trailhead: Go west on
State Road 26 (University Avenue, Newberry Road) and go through Newberry
and then to Trenton. In Tenton, turn right at the traffic light (onto
US 129), the Trailhead will be 1/4 mile after the turn on the left.
The Trailhead is the old train station. If you
have questions, please E-mail me. Chandler Otis Chanbike@xxxxxxx
