Fellow GCC members,
Consider attending the FDOT/SUN Trail Open House tonight at 6PM at the State of Florida Transportation Department (5301 NE 39th AVE) to meet with FDOT and Office of Greenways and Trails staff and give input on the criteria and processes for selecting which trails will be funded by the SUN Trail (Florida Shared-Use Non-motorized Trail Network) Program, which was approved in 2015.
Alachua County has an opportunity to acquire the High Springs-Newberry rail corridor and build a new rail trail, but funding is needed. The State has already acquired almost all of the rail corridor from Trenton to the Alachua County line. Plans are in place for a trail extension along SR 20 east of HWY 301 and Putnam County is busy closing gaps. A cross-Florida paved trail system is possible with Gainesville at its center.
Only a few public open houses are being held across the state and Gainesville has been chosen for one meeting. Please attend and show FDOT and OGT staff that trails are important to Alachua County.
Flier is attached. See Facebook event:
See you tonight!
