Dear County Commissioners,

I represent a company (Mobiquity) that moved a sizable office to gainesville 2.5 years ago. One of the draws for our office of about ~100 in the innovation area was Gainesville's culture. I see this continuing to improve with the parks and the efforts put into the downtown area.

A significant amount of our young workforce ride bikes to work. We often loan bikes to visitors. We have dozens of visitors from all over the world stay in Gainesville from several days to weeks to months and I always recommending taking a bike as it's the best way to visit Gainesville. I think it would be a shame to stop building bike lanes as part of our roads.

Dear County Commissioners,

I agree with both the email requests below. If we care about reducing carbon emissions and encouraging a healthy lifestyle in our community providing safe bicycle lanes along our County roads is important.

I second his request. Safer roads will attract more cyclists, which means less cars, less wear and tear on roads, and safer roads for both cars and cyclists.

Subject: GCCMail: paved shoulders and proposed comp plan changes

Dear County Commissioners,

I cannot make the meeting tonight, but here is a brief summary of my thoughts on this issue:

Adding paved shoulders adds about 20% to a rural road resurfacing project’s costs.  In return we get:

1.       Roads that last longer

2.       Double digit percentage decreases in automobile fatalities (you can easily google this to read research reports from various states)

3.       Obviously fewer fatalities for cyclists

I would request that we leave the comp plan as is.

Regards,
