I second his request. Safer roads will attract more cyclists, which means less cars, less wear and tear on roads, and safer roads for both cars and cyclists.

Dear County Commissioners,

 

I cannot make the meeting tonight, but here is a brief summary of my thoughts on this issue:

 

Adding paved shoulders adds about 20% to a rural road resurfacing project’s costs.  In return we get:

1.       Roads that last longer

2.       Double digit percentage decreases in automobile fatalities (you can easily google this to read research reports from various states)

3.       Obviously fewer fatalities for cyclists

 

I would request that we leave the comp plan as is.
