I want to take a minute to give props to Tim Hayes and the guys at Bikes & More for getting a vision of local mountain bike racing and making it happen this summer at the Rock Trail. As many of you know we had about 150 individual racers over the course of 6 races. That is phenomenal, especially considering we had folks driving from south Florida and the pan handle to participate.
Due to the overwhelming success of the races, Tim and Bikes & More have donated back to the trail in a significant way. They purchased a load of lime rock which we have begun putting down in over the exposed roots (and we’ll need help to continue to put this down!). Also, they have agreed to purchase a new Stihl chain saw that we will keep handy to clear the trail very soon after an obstruction occurs. So not only did your race entry fees allow you to participate if a great local event, you have helped keep the Rock trail up and running. This is a cycling community at its best and I appreciate everyone helping with the trail through trail work, participating in the races, and just plain enjoying the trail!
Finally, we will be having at least one work day in the next month or so to prepare for the collegiate race that Team Florida will be hosting the first weekend in October. Please look for an announcement soon and help out if you can. If you can’t make a scheduled work day you are welcome to do maintenance at any time. This includes trimming the trail, spreading lime rock and building bridges and features (with my approval).
Thanks again for being such a great cycling community!
