Our neighbors to the east in the City of Hawthorne are excited to be holding their first-ever
Active Streets Hawthorne on Sunday, June 14th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m, on Johnson Street, just a few turns of the crank past the parking lot at the eastern trail head of the Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail.
Hawthorne businesses, civic groups, and other organizations will host free, family-friendly fun while highlighting Hawthorne's downtown business district , which will soon undergo a major repaving project that includes a bicycle and pedestrian-friendly makeover!
If you have never ventured past the paved parking lot at the Hawthorne end of our beloved GHT, now is your chance to see what you've been missing. PJ's Cafe and Diane's BBQ will be offering up great local cuisine. Rumor has it that a Hawthorne citizen has accepted the challenge to create a kinetic sculpture to rival Gainesville's own Bike Gator, Bike Shark, and Bike Fish. Is he upt to the challenge? You'll have to come out to find out. The amazing bike blender will be out, making human-powered smoothies, too.
You won't want to miss this, so invite your family and friends, form a GCC group ride, borrow a tandem and ride with your honey, or
join the group riding at 12-15mph, leaving from Swift Cycle on Sunday morning.
