Youth Road Ride

Although last weekend we only had 4 kids for the ride, it was a great learning experience for them and for us.  They are actually much easier to teach than adults as they seem to listen and do as they are told, not interpret and do as they think they were told!!!

So, we are going to do a few more of them until everyone thinks it’s getting too cold.  The thought is to do them on the second Sunday of each month, starting at 8:30 am.  BUT, we will alternate the ride location between Hawthorne Trail and Nature Coast Trail (Trenton).  Probably James will not make the Trenton rides as it’s a long way out of town!!

Please ensure that you have a current GCC membership that includes the kids.

Detail for the next ride:

Ad Hoc Ride
Planned speed: 14
Youth Road Training
Sunday, September 9th   8:30 AM
Meet: Trenton Elementary School Car Park
Planned Miles: 18
Route: School to the “Bridge over the Suwannee” and back.
Ride Leader: Tony Cousins

Head WEST out of Gainesville on SR 26, through Newberry to Trenton.  Go through the light in Trenton to the Elementary School on the right side (north) of the road.  Park in front of the main school entrance.

This is a Sunday morning training ride for Young Riders between 12 and 15.  The objective will be to teach them group riding etiquette.

We plan to meet at the Trenton Elementary School Car Park at 8:30 and ride out to Hawthorne and back for about 18 miles.

Ultimately, we would like to have an MS150 Junior team for the Cycle to the Shore ride next year (end Sept/early Oct 2013).

This is a ride for people between 10 and 15 years of age, and able to ride steadily at about 14/15 mph minimum and have a road bike (no mountain bikes or leisure bikes).  They should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Please make sure that they have water and snacks.
