All,

Just so everyone knows, May is National Bike Month. Lots going on that may be of interest to GCC members. Below is the blurb from the League of American Bicyclists. Enjoy!

National Bike Month has officially begun!

And it is so much more than 31 days in May. It's a celebration of bikes; a reminder to get rolling again; a gateway to riding more often; a time to evangelize the beauty of bikes; and much, much more. Since 1956, the League has sponsored and recognized May as National Bike Month

And as we prepare to celebrate the first day of May, we've got an opportunity to do something together: You've got just a few more hours to join our first virtual "Happy Bike Month" of the year! With the click of a button, you'll be able to auto-schedule a pre-written Bike Month celebration message on your Facebook, Twitter, and/or Tumblr feeds. The messages will ring out all at the same time today at noon ESTIt's not too late!

What other dates this month should you keep in mind?
Tell us what you're doing in your community and we'll showcase your event, too!

WITH SO MANY REASONS TO RIDE, WHAT'S YOURS?
The momentum is building: With growing cultural awareness around health and wellness, sustainability and economic savings, bicycling is being seen by new and broader audiences as a simple solution to many complex problems, from reducing obesity rates to increasing mobility options.

This year, we want to hear from you. What's your 'why'? With so many reasons to ride, what's yours? We'll be sharing submissions on our blog throughout the month of May!

BIKE MONTH RAFFLE: NEW WHEELSET FROM ROLF PRIMA
Rolf Prima built a one-of-a-kind VCX Disc wheelset for the North American Handmade Bicycle Show, and, boy, did it get attention! With all the interest in buying the wheelset, they knew they could do something more than just sell it outright. We are excited to announce that we have partnered with Rolf Prima to raffle off this gorgeous wheelset, with proceeds going to support bike advocacy!

During the month of May, Rolf Prima is selling raffle tickets to win this one-of-a-kind set. It costs $10 per raffle entry, with free entries when you buy three or more. All proceeds go to the League to support the movement to create a bicycle-friendly America for everyone! Buy your raffle entries here.

EVENT SPOTLIGHT: BIKE TO THE ZOO DAY IN HONOLULU
The City and County of Honolulu is hosting its 7th annual Bike to the Zoo event on May 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those who ride their bikes to the zoo receive free admission. The Hawaii Bicycling League is providing a free bike valet. Learn more about all of the events happening in Hawaii this month here. And if you're planning an event or outing in your community, we want to hear about it! Tell us via this form and it will appear on our interactive map during the month of May!
