Women Riders,

I'm working on an article, "Riding Like a Girl," for the next newsletter.  From a male perspective I'm looking at how far we've come and how far we have to go in respecting and encouraging women cyclists.  As an aside, I would say our club is the best among all the clubs and teams in which I have participated, and things are definitely better than when I started riding in 1982.  (My first coach used to scare women away from our rides by telling body part jokes).

That said, I'm looking for responses to the following questions, along with any comments you may have.  Feel free to be bold and honest.  All comments will be kept anonymous.  I'm not just looking for negatives, but also positives.  Maybe you've been disappointed with your experience on "macho" rides--I'd like to hear why.  But then maybe a male ride leader went out of his way to make you feel welcome on a ride--I'd like to hear about that too.

Here are the questions.  Please respond to my email jtexconsult@gmail.com, not the list.

1.  What was your worst experience as a woman coming into the sport?
2.  What was your best experience coming into the sport?
3.  What can we as individuals, group captains, and a club to encourage women's cycling?

Please don't limit yourself to my questions.

Keep on Ridin' Like a Girl,

James T
