The Bee-17s will ride from Earl
Powers Park, Saturday, June 9th to Cross
Creek for a trip
of 44 miles.
The Full Route: Will
start from Earl Powers Park going east on Hawthorne Road several hundred feet
until we reach SE 60th Terrace, where we will cross over to the Hawthorne Trail,
taking it east to CR325, then taking that south to Cross Creek and the
Marjorie Kennen Rawlings Park, where we will stop briefly, then continue on
CR325 to US301, which we will take south to the rest stop in Citra and turn
west onto CR318, taking that to US441, which we will take to CR234
at Micanopy, then turn northeast on CR234 back to the Trail at Rochelle,
and then backtrack on the Trail to SE 60th Terrace and onto Hawthorne
Road briefly to return to Earl Powers Park.
The Time: Meet
at 7:45AM, ride
at 8:00AM,
Saturday, June 9th. Expect a ride time of ~3:15
hours including the rest stop.
The Ride: This is
a moderately easy ride of
~44.2 miles, of mostly
flat roads with a few longer
hills on US441. Expect ride speeds of 16-20 mph
with a target pedaling speed of 18 mph and an average speed of
16-18 mph. This is
a no-drop friendly ride for riders in reasonable physical condition;
we will keep the core of the group together to the extent possible;
riders on this ride are expected to be able to ride at the stated group
speed; nevertheless, we will leave no one
behind. Helmets
are required.
The Rest Stop: Will
be in Citra at
approximately 22 miles at a
convenience store/gas station with restrooms; optional brief stop at The Pearl
in Micanopy if required.
The Start Point:
Earl Powers Park is located on
the east side of town on the north side of Hawthorne Road (SR 20),
which has bike lanes continuously from the east side of town; look for the
brown standard park sign just outside the primary populated area east of town,
several miles east of Waldo Road. It can also be accessed by bicycle by
riding the Hawthorne Rail Trail approximately 4 miles east from Boulware
Springs, over the "hills and hammocks", until you get to the "SE 60th
Terrace" sign on the trail, where you can cross directly from the
Trail to Hawthorne Road and ride a few hundred feet west back towards town
to reach the Park. There is no fee to enter and park at Earl
Powers Park; we usually meet near the restrooms close to the entrance to
the park.
Weather: In the event
of questionable weather, a GO or cancellation notice will be posted on the
list server approximately 1 hour or sooner before posted ride
meeting time.
Note: This is the last
ride which will be directly posted to the email list server; future rides will
be posted through the new Ride Schedule system. If you are on my Bee-17
mail list, you will continue to receive advance ride information in the Ride
Reports for upcoming rides.
