Call to Action on 8th Av. The Gainesville City Commission plans to vote, TONIGHT, Thursday, Dec. 4th on whether to either keep the current 2-lane design (with bike lanes) that is safer for all users or revert to the previous, more dangerous 4-lane design.  The decision that is made will not only impact the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists, but also the visual appeal (landscaping, medians, crosswalks) of this section of public road that borders public land, a park, and schools.
I urge everyone to try to attend tonight's meeting. 8th Avenue will be discussed, "time certain," at 8 p.m.   Public comment will be taken, and is limited to 3 minutes per speaker.  Do not feel that you must get up and speak.  email the Commission and to call Commissioners as soon as possible as there is a very real chance that the Commission will vote for four lanes.
