Special Mentions
Without the time commitment of all 293 riders in GCC's team this year, it would impossible for us to win this challenge again. The fact we have close to 30% participation out of a 1,000 member club speaks volumes.
Worthy of mention are the following people:
Jodi Schulz - Women, 5th overall! Jodi missed part of the challenge, and likely would have finished Top 3. Superb effort.
Tom Ward - He led the challenge for a brief while, and continually plugged away with the miles from Gainesville to the mountains of Asheville, NC. #23 nationally.
Scott Erker - Once again, Scott was one of the club's top mileage performers. He topped off his run with a very fast ride at last weekend's Six Gap Century in Dahlonega, GA.
Hugh Strickland - Mr Consistency. He's been traveling recently, but prior to the month of September, he was knocking out a minimum of 50 miles every day.
Derek Schanze - Derek is one of Gainesville's fastest bike racers. Much of his mileage includes racing and many hard training miles. He was rewarded last month with a massive toilet paper win as part of August's monthly prize drawing :)
Sue Bowers - Sue repeats for 2014, with more consistent, solid riding during this year's challenge. Nice one Sue.
Brendan White - If you know Brendan, you'll know he's been working through recovery from a bad crash during 2013. That didn't stop him from busting out serious mileage during the challenge for 2014.
Jeremy Coffey - Jeremy was the first person to join GCC's team for 2014, and is a daily commuter and regular on the Glider rides.
William McCombie - Virtually all of William's rides are commuting miles. His mileage tally is proof that you don't need to ride a whole lot, to contribute a bunch of points to the team. Thank you William.
Mrs K-Dogg aka Dana Zimmel. Dana is a busy lady in her professional life, but in her spare time, she racks up mega miles solo, or with the A ride. Dana, thanks for your contribution!
Unfortunately, I cannot possibly mention all 293 riders. Thank you again to all who have contributed to GCC's victory in the 2014 challenge.
In Closing
Yours truly is glad the challenge for 2014 is almost over. I will be stepping out of the challenge for 2015. It's been a fun ride, but I am looking forward to taking October 1 off the bike!
