GCC Friends,

I am recruiting volunteers to staff a GCC hospitality tent at the upcoming Open Streets Gainesville event on Sunday, Oct. 5th. This is the Sunday after the Pink Pumpkin Pedal Off ride on Saturday, 10/04.

Your commitment, should you accept the assignment, will consist of serving water and Gatorade under a shady tent, smiling, and answering questions about GCC and cycling. Yeah, it's that easy.

Let me know if you are available to staff a one-hour shift (11-12, 12-1, 1-2, or 2-3) at the event. I can also use helpers for setup (10-11 a.m.) and breakdown (3-4 p.m.).

If you are kind enough to volunteer, your shift will be limited to one hour so that you  are free to wander about and enjoy the event when not on duty.

So far, the evolving lineup includes various zumba, fitness, and yoga groups giving lessons and demos, a bike parade featuring bikes of all kinds, and a bike decorating event before the parade (because, you want your bike to look good for the parade). There will be Irish dancing outside a genuine Irish pub, live music (featuring The Weeds of Eden, Nook and Cranny, and Flatland. Flatland will be riding on a mobile stage pulled by a bike!) Gainesville's very own Bike Gator human-powered kinetic sculpture will be there, and we'll have family fun activities such as board games, chalk drawings on the street, and a kids' water play area, moms promoting baby wearing, and Indian dance lessons, yoga, and meditation. There will be Pilates, the Velo Vixens, a flash mob, and....well, you'll just have to come out an see who else we manage to line up between now and October 5th. One thing we won't have:  cars on the street. It's a totally car-free event.
