FYI, it is a violation of the Terms of Service for GCCMail to conduct discussions. The GCC has the Friends of the Gainesville Cycling Club Facebook page for discussions. A few additional posts have been held and will not be posted individually to GCCMail; I’ve copied them below (hit delete now if you don’t want to view them).

From Tim Newhall:
I totally approve of Kristen's email! This is exactly the type of bicycle-friendly advocacy and education GCC should be engaged in. Way to go Kristen!
From Ed Gardner:
I consider these kind of posts from Kristen or James an information
source about what the different potential county commissioners’
political views are about bike infrastructure, not general political
“spam” of the “I think blah blah is a better person” sort of
personal opinions. Then I combine that information with other sources
and decide who to vote for. If any posts bother me, they are but one
mouse/button click away from disappearing from view. Arguing about what
is “appropriate” for other people to post as a "discussion about the
discussion” takes it one step further into the SPAM category. We have
ONE original post with information about candidate’s positions, and
now FIVE new ones expressing opinions about the appropriateness of the
original post, but containing NO new information about the candidates or
issues which is useful. The Delete button works fine on those too. Feel
free to use it on this post too.
From Rob Robins:
Hi Judy, et al.,
I’m a member of the GCC board who is interested in hearing from the membership concerning the GCC’s relationship with “advocacy.”
Thank you for your comments today.
I intend to make a motion at an upcoming GCC board meeting to suspend and reevaluate the function of the “advocacy director” position (created only recently, but before I joined the board); thus you should feel free to elaborate on what you have written or to ask others whom you know, who also have concerns about the GCC’s role in advocacy to message me as well.
While it is in our bylaws "To represent the Gainesville bicycling community to the government and the press on issues that affect bicycling." (Article 2, Sec. 5)....I believe the current advocacy director and his colleagues in the GCAT are taking the GCC far afield of this provision and that much of our membership is not comfortable with his actions. (Your responses to the e-mail from GCAT Director Kristen Young to the GCC membership today would seem to be the latest round of complaint to support this observation).
I am not alone on the board in this, but likely need to hear more from the membership if a voting majority of the board is to be convinced.
Best wishes,
Rob Robins
