Hello everyone, it's time for a late July mileage challenge update!

As of today's date, we have 270 members aboard GCC's team, and are close to cracking 400,000 points!  However, the second placed team, Omaha, is hot on our heels and potentially closing the gap.  I had an advisory board meeting with the Bike League yesterday, and the Omaha attendee indicated they are seriously trying to win this challenge.

Do you want a team from Omaha, Nebraska, with a population of 425,000, to defeat our humble city of just over 100,000 people and it's awesome community and University?

Everyone, please ask friends, spouses, neighbours, etc, to join GCC's team, and help contribute to our team's lead of the National Mileage Challenge. I would like to see 300+ riders contributing.

For those who are already members of our team, LOG YOUR MILES. Only 185 of our 270 team members have logged miles for July.  This isn't good enough!  I know a lot of you are riding.  LOG YOUR MILES, it isn't that difficult.  Thanks :)

Onto the statistics:

1. Number one team in the Nation - Gainesville Cycling Club.  But for how long?

2. 270 riders now registered on the club's team, up six from last update. NEXT GOAL, THREE HUNDRED RIDERS.

3. One female rider (Jodi Schulz, 151st overall) and one male rider (El Presidente, 8th overall) in the Top 20 nationally for their genders.

4. Miles / Kms clocked since May 1 (at 3:00pm EST) - 226,648 Miles / 362,636 Kilometres.

Notable Mentions

Mary Verrandaux has joined our team - former professional female road cyclist, represented the USA at a national level, and raced at the 1985 Tour de France Feminin! Nine time Florida Road Race champion!

Hugh Strickland, or Mr Consistent as I like to call him - every day of this challenge, Hugh rolls out 50 miles a day without fail. You can read more about Hugh here - http://bikeleague.org/content/challenge-profile-hugh-strickland-motivator-extraordinaire
