Hi Folks,

Here's a quick note to tell you about a bike shop well worth visiting the next time you're traveling on I-77 just north of Charlotte, NC.

It's First Flight Bicycles, barely 10 minutes off the interstate at the Statesville exit: 216 S. Center St., Statesville, NC 28677.  www.firstflightbikes.com

The shop is owned by Jeff Archer, one of the most knowledgeable bike guys you'll ever meet. On all 3 levels are hundreds of rare, vintage, historic road and mountain bikes, with emphasis slightly on the latter.

The shop isn't officially a museum but it really is -- certainly one of the most extensive collections of vintage bikes and parts on the continent. You could spend a full day there just gawking (some people do). Jeff welcomes visitors and will be happy to show you around.

Why was I there? To add my 1983 Specialized Stumpjumper to Jeff's collection. I hadn't ridden it in years and now it has the best home possible. Here's its page, if you're interested: http://tinyurl.com/k4ljppx

First Flight is a fascinating shop -- plenty of new bikes and parts, too. It guarantees a memorable visit. And if like I did you have an unusual older bike gathering dust, Jeff would like to hear about it and maybe make you an offer.

Thanks for reading. -- Ed Pavelka
