Hi all,
The Bikes for Vets project continues to grow. About 25 bikes have been put into the VA system, through the Honor Center’s VA Residence. Chandler Otis was the bike mechanic for 6 weeks and now a core group of vets are running the Tuesday afternoon 2:30-4:30 bike clinic. I’m providing safety supplies and bike parts as needed through the donations provided by fellow GCCers and some of the local bike shops.
I’ve been borrowing my husband’s bike stand every Tuesday but if the vets have a stand that could stay at the Honor Center, they would be able to work during the week. I’ve seen this clinic turn into a very empowering activity for the vets, who go out of their way to help anyone with bike or scooter problems. They’ve also started riding the Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail for exercise and recreation.
Please reply if you have a bike stand to donate.
