The Gainesville Youth Mountain Bike League will be riding this Sunday at 5:30 p.m. at the Rock trail. Since the Gainesville mountain bike race is next weekend, we will discuss racing and what it’s like to do your first mountain bike race. We will be doing a practice race for the kids that will last about 15 minutes. From there we’ll go for a 45 minute or so ride.
The Gainesville mountain bike race is at Hailes trails near Newberry on March 18th. The kids race for ages 3 to 11 is $5 and starts at 8:30. The categories are Boys (9-11) / Girls (6-11) / Boys (6-8) / All (3-5). The junior race for ages 10-18 starts at 11:30. You’ll want to show up about 45 minutes before the start of the race.
The kids race is on a short, flat and non-technical course and lasts about 10-15 minutes. The junior race is the full-blown race course, which is somewhat demanding.
Since I just had surgery 2 weeks ago I will not be racing (insert sad face here) so I will be taking video and pictures of the races (insert happy face). Please let me know if you have any questions about Sunday’s ride or about the race on the 18th.
