The Bee-17s will ride north from the
Hunter's Crossing Chevron, Saturday, March 10th in a loop
of 44 miles.
The Route: Will start
from the Hunter's Crossing Chevron and ride east
on CR232 (NW 53rd Ave) to SR121 (NW 34th St), where we will turn north and
ride to the "Y" iintersection where we will bear northeast on CR231 and take it
to CR22 (NW 156th Ave) where we will turn west and go to CR237, where we will
turn north and ride until it intersects with CR235, which we will take southwest
to CR239 where we will turn north and ride to the intersection with CR236, where
we will turn west towards Traxler until we get to CR241 where we will turn south
and go to the rest stop Kangaroo at 441. We will resume going south on
CR241/CR235 then bear left onto CR241 at the BP station and take CR241
south until we get to CR232 (Millhopper Road) where we will turn east and
return to the Chevron.
Note:
Although I may be also present on part of this ride, depending on the
weather in Daytona Beach, Mike Warren is going to be the
official ride leader for this ride. He will have maps of the route and
will set the pace for the ride and assist anyone having problems. Please
inform him if you plan to leave the ride route early or are having trouble
keeping up the pace. You can contact me (Ed) through Friday if you have
any questions.
The Time: Meet
at 8:45AM, ride
at 9:00AM,
Saturday, March 10th. Expect a full ride time of ~3:00
hours including the rest stop in Alachua.
The Ride: This is
a moderately easy ride of
~44.0 miles, of mostly
flat roads with a few significant hills including "Mebane". Expect ride
speeds of 15-19 mph with a target pedaling speed of 17
mph and an average speed of 16-17 mph. This is a
no-drop friendly ride for riders in reasonable physical condition; we will
soft pedal as necessary to keep the core of the group together because
riders on this ride are expected to be able to ride at the stated group
speed; nevertheless we will wait for everyone to regroup at
each major turn and after fun sprints, if necessary to prevent
drops. Helmets
are required.
The Rest Stop: Will
be in Alachua at
approximately 30 miles at a convenience store/gas station with restrooms at
the intersection of CR241/235 and 441.
The Start Point:
The Hunter's Crossing Chevron is located at the
intersection of CR232 (Millhopper Rd/ NW 53rd Ave) and NW 43rd Street
Please park on the north end of the west side of the parking area, so as not to
obstruct traffic or access to the gas pumps.
The Ride Aids: Route
maps will be available at the start of the ride; if you want a preview map of
the ride or a Garmin .tcx file, email Ed at the address below. General
information about the Bee-17s is now available in the "Riding Groups" page at
the GCC web site:
Weather: In the event
of questionable weather as we near ride time, a GO or cancellation notice
will be posted on the list server approximately 1 hour or
sooner before posted ride meeting time; if you don't see anything by
then, the ride is most likely a GO; if you still have concerns or useful
specific information about bad weather along the ride route,
please give me a call.
Note: The Bee-17s are
now an official GCC riding group. Anyone wishing to "join" the group as a
regular member can do so from their own Members Area page. Non-group
GCC members continue to be welcomed to join us on any posted ride they
feel like riding without having to formally "join" the
group.
Questions?: Call Ed at
