Hi, GCC Friends,

Please see the attached helmet safety survey.  Please consider completing the survey, however you may feel about helmet use.
I just did.  It took less than 5 minutes.  You will need to use the QR reader on your smartphone to access the survey.

(I didn’t create the survey and am not involved in this research project, so please address any questions or gripes to the original senders of the email).

Thanks!

-Ally

Subject: ICAP UF Health Helmet Safety Campaign

Good Morning,

Our names are Sydney Morang and Madison MacDougall, and we are Health Education Interns with the Interdisciplinary Clinical & Academic Program (ICAP) at UF Health. We focus on quality improvement initiatives throughout the hospital system and are branching out onto the University of Florida campus to help improve student and community health.
Currently, we are working on a Helmet Safety Campaign and need your assistance to gain more data regarding student perceptions of safety.
  • Our campaign is using an IRB-approved survey (IRB201900263) to assess barriers to using helmets within the community and help gain understanding as to how to normalize helmet use.
  • According to our current observance data, 89% of UF students do not wear a helmet when riding scooters and 74% do not when riding bicycles.
  • We would appreciate your help in disseminating this email and QR code to our survey to the professors and students within your department to assist in our campaign.

Low helmet use rate is a serious issue that we are working to tackle to prevent avoidable injury and death within our student and faculty populations. At your preference, we may alternatively send a representative to the beginning of your classes, to explain the survey and have them take it.
Together, we can learn more about this issue and continue to work on increasing the safety of UF students. Thank you in advance and we look forward to hearing from you!

Kind Regards,

Sydney Morang and Madison MacDougall
