Hi everyone,
During last month's GCC board
meeting, we decided it would be fun to enter the GCC into the League of
American Bicyclists' mileage challenge for 2014 - and hopefully, win it
again! The "warm up" period is happening right now, but the challenge
begins on May 1, and runs until September 30.
Winning this challenge is
all about team numbers, riding as often as you can, no matter how long or short your ride may be. Riders are awarded 20 points for every day they ride, provided the ride is at least one mile in length. An additional point is awarded per mile ridden. ALL ARE
WELCOME TO JOIN!
For 2014, Rob Robins (Board Member - Member at Large)
will be the Team Captain, and I will provide technical support. If
you've got questions about logging miles, signing up, etc, please drop me an
email.
JOIN THE GCC'S TEAM FOR THE 2014 CHALLENGE:

3. Fill in the required information, accept the terms and conditions, provide any optional information, then click REGISTER.
4. Click MY ACCOUNT (top right of screen).
5. On the
DASHBOARD screen, scroll down to
YOUR GROUPS. To the right of
TEAM, click
SEARCH. In the
SEARCH BY NAME field, type
gainesville cycling club - then, click
JOIN.
HOW TO LOG MILES?
1. Visit https://nationalbikechallenge.org/
(the next steps assume you are logged in).
2. Click LOG MILES.
3. For this step, you need to Sync your miles with one of the three participating websites / apps - Endomondo, Mapmyride or Moves. The first time you sync, you will need to authorize your chosen website / app to sync with the Bike Challenge.
Using Endomondo as an example:
(a) Click Endomondo
(b) Endomondo Login page. Assuming you have an Endomondo account, sign in.
(c) Application Access - Click AUTHORIZE APP.
Again using Endomondo as the example, you would log all future miles using the Endomondo website / app. However, you then need to Sync your miles from Endomondo with the Bike Challenge website at least every couple of days. Failing to do the Sync will not reflect your standing, or the GCC's team standings on the Bike Challenge website.
Unfortunately, this is an extra step the folks at the Bike Challenge built in this year, which is a little inconvenient.
With all of that said, I hope people aren't too confused! Please consider signing up! I'm confident that GCC's team can win the challenge again, particularly if we have the same levels of participation as last year.
Regards,
Jayson
