Helen Warren does not endorse the idea of mandatory licenses for bicycles. It is beyond questionably logic and political gymnastics to suggest otherwise.

Helen Warren supports cycling in Gainesville, unlike her opponent. Helen Warren appreciates the endorsements of Gainesville Cycling Club and Gainesville Citizens for Active Transportation and will listen to the cycling community, unlike her opponent who doesn’t understand how roads and road maintenance are funded, only wants to meet the needs of motorists and would vote against the changes on NW 8th Ave. Helen Warren's opponent openly ran anti-bicycle and is supported and endorsed by some of the most anti-bicycle groups in the city and county. Why would the club urger cyclists to vote for someone with these positions?

The club urges cyclists to vote for Helen Warren based on her stated support of cycling, her responses to a questionnaire and her responses at the GCC-sponsored candidates forum. Her responses are available for you to read. The forum was covered by the Sun.

The commission is at tipping point. Even with Helen Warren's pro-bike vote on the commission, it will be a fight to get the votes needed to get reasonable transportation policies passed. Without Helen Warren, it will be practically impossible.

I find this email of questionable logic.  Yvonne Hinson-Rawls is the sitting commissioner who is proposing mandatory licenses for bicycles.  Hinson Rawls has endorsed Helen Warren in today’s election.  Helen Warren has said she endorsees the current commission’s policies.  Why would the club urge cyclists vote for someone who endorses the idea of mandatory licenses for bicycles?

Subject: GCCMail: Please vote today - Say no to Mandatory Bike Licenses in Gainesville

Hello everyone,

I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to vote in today's city election.  This election will help determine if bicycle licenses in Gainesville become mandatory, and whether the city will continue on it's path as a bicycle friendly city.

As Mr Hayes pointed out today in an earlier email, the article in this morning's Gainesville Sun (http://www.gainesville.com/article/20140408/ARTICLES/140409657?tc=cr) suggests a scary future for bicycles in Gainesville.  Mandatory bicycle licensing will affect anyone who rides a bike, and is especially hard on those people who use a bicycle as an alternative to vehicular transportation, due to financial hardship.

The Gainesville Cycling Club has endorsed Helen Warren for City Commission.  It is imperative we get her onto the commission, in order to help keep the City of Gainesville on the right path.

Please take the time to vote today!

Regards,
