Those with an avowed interest in these matters (presumably a great majority of this list) may also wish to exercise their right to petition an elected official:

As always, polite and dispassionate remarks are the best route to rational discussion and common ground.
And while not necessary to point out the many failings in Ms. Hinson-Rawls’ reasoning to the GCC community, it is interesting to note that the early commenters at the Gainesville Sun on-line
today regard her proposal to license and tax bicycles as government overreach, first and foremost.
I must say that I give these folks high marks for consistency (at least at this early point in the proceedings) – as the online Gainesville Sun forums are frequently not friendly to bicycle
issues.

Subject: GCCMail: Please vote today - Say no to Mandatory Bike Licenses in Gainesville
Hello everyone,
I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to vote in today's city election. This election will help determine if bicycle licenses in Gainesville become mandatory, and whether the city will continue on it's path as a bicycle friendly
city.
As Mr Hayes pointed out today in an earlier email, the article in this morning's Gainesville Sun (
http://www.gainesville.com/article/20140408/ARTICLES/140409657?tc=cr) suggests a scary future for bicycles in Gainesville. Mandatory bicycle licensing will affect anyone who rides a bike, and is especially hard on those people who use a bicycle as an alternative
to vehicular transportation, due to financial hardship.
The Gainesville Cycling Club has endorsed Helen Warren for City Commission. It is imperative we get her onto the commission, in order to help keep the City of Gainesville on the right path.
Please take the time to vote today!
Regards,
Jayson O'Mahoney
