This recruitment is being held to establish an Open Eligible List to fill current and future Environmental Resources Specialist I positions throughout the County of Orange. The current vacancies are within OC Community Resources/OC Parks. This recruitment may also be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower level classification.

THE OPPORTUNITY
OC Parks has excellent job opportunities for two Natural Resource Program Coordinators to perform a variety of assignments in programs designed to monitor, maintain and improve the quality of OC Parks' natural resources. The Natural Resource Program Coordinators in OC Parks are responsible for planning, implementing, overseeing, coordinating and/or reviewing all natural resource projects, plans, research and studies for up to 23 parks facilities, requiring specialized professional knowledge of Federal, State, County and Conservation Plan regulations, laws and codes relating to specific natural resource programs. These positions perform a wide variety of assignments related to the protection and enhancement of Orange County's natural resources.

 

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

•Plan, implement, train and monitor park staff, contractors, volunteers and partners engaged in monitoring, maintenance and improvement of habitat quality standards

•Ensure adherence to standards related to Natural Communities Conservation Plans, Habitat Conservation Plans, Habitat Maintenance and Monitoring Plans and Long-term Management Plans

•Confer with regulatory agencies, land management partners and other stakeholders as appropriate in development and coordination of major natural resource programs and projects

•Serve as a natural resource Subject Matter Expert on behalf of OC Parks

•Identify natural resource strategic goals, performance metrics and staff training/development needs to ensure effective performance and professional guidance

•Assess policies, procedures, protocols, and trends impacting the quality of natural resources

•Research, identify and develop natural resource activities, projects, programs and opportunities to further OC Parks' mission and goals

•Assist with preparation of annual budget requests for the Natural Resources Management Group; develop cost analyses to support planned activities

•Negotiate and manage specialized consultant contracts; review natural resource project scopes of work, schedules and budgets to ensure timely completion, high quality and compliance

•Contribute to OC Parks' leadership role in the protection, maintenance and enhancement of habitat quality in Orange County
