Subject: Weed coordinator Position at CDFA

There is an opening for a Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) at CDFA. The incumbent will oversee the terrestrial weed control grant program and function as the state weed coordinator. For the job description, see

https://www.jobs.ca.gov/CalHrPublic/Jobs/JobPosting.aspx?JobControlId=166211

The job description is, by necessity, somewhat general. The combination of pay and benefits is quite good. The job is in Sacramento, CA. Applications are due by 9/25/2019.

In order to apply, one must first take the online examination at

https://www.jobs.ca.gov/CalHrPublic/Exams/Bulletin.aspx?examCD=4PB1001

This involves signing into (or signing up on) the Cal HR website and then taking the examination. The online examination is less about weed coordination and more about one’s experience in meeting the general job description requirements. So, be sure to tailor your answers to the language in the job description. It is useful to compose and save your answers elsewhere and paste them into the examination, in case you are interrupted while taking the examination. If the examination is not complete, you can always come back and start again, but do not finalize an unfinished exam; you can only take it once a year.

Once you make the list for passing the examination, you will need to complete the online job application for this specific job. Top-rated candidates that fulfill the minimum qualifications will be interviewed in person. The in-person interview questions will be geared toward the specific knowledge base and experience needed to carry out the duties of the job.

All of this is a bit of work, but once done you can apply for any SES position with the state for a year. You can save your application on the website and reuse it as a template for applications for other state jobs.
