Martin,
Very interesting to see the plate of Comet Brooks C/1911 O1. What a
comet observer and discoverer Brooks was, with 30 independent
discoveries and 21 of them credited to him. This comet was his last
discovery and it reached mag 2 in the northwestern twilight sky, it had
a 30 degree bluish tail. He was called the called The King of Comet
finders by the USA press.
Brooks is one of my comet observer/discoverer heroes. There are a few
others.

    Last week I attended the ExoClock annual meeting in Madrid. While
there, we were lucky enough to be shown around the Royal Observatory and
its impressive collection of historic equipment, not least two original
Herschel telescopes. In the collection was a glass  plate photograph of
comet C/1911 01 (Brooks), which I thought might be of passing interest
to the group.

tend to have a section meeting every couple of years. The last three
