This comet is developing very nicely and it is already an impressive
object, well-placed for observation in the morning sky. It is definitely
worth getting up for!
I get a total magnitude of 8.0 from Chelmsford this morning (Sept 23)
using comphot. This is similar to the other values reported on COBS.
Jonathan Shanklin reported 7.7 yesterday morning from Cambridge (Sept
22) using 20x80B.
The COBS lightcurve is very encouraging and I think we can now be
reasonably confident that this will be a very nice evening object when
it is at its brightest around New Moon in October.

The gas tail has been very variable and this morning it showed some
motion with a large blob of material moving rapidly away from the head:
