A small group of dedicated observers keep Comet
29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 1 under close watch - You know who you are and thanks
by the way!
Recently the nucleus has become more
active and so I am sending this note out to request observations,
especially from certain longitudes around our planet so that we can be sure
of catching its outbursts 24 hours a day.
In particular, observers located in (a)
Australia/New Zealand; (b) Japan/S.E. Asia; and (c) the Middle East are
essentially absent from the team just at the moment and so if anyone can obtain
images of 29P using telescopes of 0.25-m or larger in aperture from these
longitudes, it would greatly strengthen our team effort.
A red filter is best but unfiltered images
also generally give good results. The objective is to measure inner coma Rc
photometry using apertures as close as possible to 5.6 arcseconds radius,
and measured against the UCAC4 catalogue. I can do the measures if suitable
images can be achieved.
Please correspond offline on this one.
Thanks.
Richard Miles

P.S. For the record, the following outbursts have
been detected so far this apparition:
(Thanks to all the observers who have
been participating this year and who have made this
possible)
