Thanks for sending the drawings of C/2020F3. It is good to receive visual sketches and drawings, mostly we get images. The value of drawings is that we can compare them with drawings made before the age of imaging and photography. The old woodcuts published in the old astronomy text books show delIcate features in the coma and tails of the brightest comets, it would be interesting to see if you could see any details within the coma and tail of C/2020F3 whilst is is bright. The comet is now viewable in the evening sky as well as the morning with it becoming circumpolar. This gives a great opportunity to see rapid changes within the comet as the observing window is quite long. I hope you will employ high magnifications and see if an experienced planetary observer like yourself is able to see any changing details. The best example I can give is the parablic hoods seen in the inner coma of Comet Hale-Bopp C/1995O1.

Further to Nick's reply - Yes, the striated features or striae are real and are well shown in Nick's, Damian Peach's and Michael Jaeger's recent images.
The structures are partly associated with cyclic variations in the amount of material (gas and dust) released by an irregularly-shaped nucleus as it spins and is subjected to periodic changes in the amount of solar energy the surface absorbs. You also get changes in spin rate and spin-axis direction when the nucleus is very active like this.

Great images. It was a stunning sight last night for those of us lucky
enough to have clear skies. I have loads of images of the comet and the
really spectacular NLCs from this morning but I have rushed to process a
couple taken with different focal lengths, 80mm and 200mm. In both cases
the photocentre is not saturated so there should be a load of detail I
can pull out later.

Hoping for clear skies again tonight. This must be the best comet seen
