Re: [HBP] So disappointing

Hello!
I beg your pardon? James E. Gunn is that kind of writer and editor,
but he did not write that Star Trek novel, he actually finished it
from a Ted Sturgeon treatise which might have become a third season
episode. And it was the only work that did not turn out badly because
of that. Oh and Pocket Books were always Star Trek's real publisher
after wresting it away from Bantam. Let's leave Star Trek out of this
list,

I have his "The Road to Science Fiction" anthology series; it's a pretty good, wide-ranging selection covering the history of SF. (Contrariwise, his Star Trek novel "The Joy Machine" — published before Pocket Books took over the franchise and greatly improved the editorial standards — is abysmal.) But writers whose stories were written primarily for entertainment, such as Piper wrote, simply aren't on Gunn's radar.
