Paratime question Tom Rogers 02 Oct 2025 01:50 UTC

Hi everyone,

My apologies if this has been discussed before. There is so much that I don’t remember these days 🤣

I was thinking about random Paratime stuff when I had the thought - do we know anything about the limits of Paratime? What I mean is, how “far” does the timeline-splitting reach? Not in terms that Piper used like parayears but in terms of what and or who are effceted.

This came up when I was considering that there aren’t any alien races in Paratime that I could remember. All the stories are purely Terra (or Mars) centered. There are references to a few Second Level civilizations that have developed FTL space travel and some other similar advancements beyond those of the Home-Timeline but I can’t remember any aliens or other inhabited planets being involved.

This lead me to consider just how Paratime works. When an event occurs that causes a new timeline to split off, is this only a local effect? If, say, a colony was established in another star system would they have their own paratime universe or would they somehow be entangled with Terra’s?

And how is this new timeline actually generated? An event happens that is the spark for a new timeline - how exactly is it created? Is the effect local or universal? The existence of aliens in the paratime universe would complicate this no end. Perhaps that is a reason we do that see them?

Anyone have any ideas, corrections, additions or criticisms of any of this?

Tom
